Great food and fun hotel
My husband and I work from home and frequently have hectic schedules. On the weekends, getting out of the house is a top priority. Often, we choose to go out to eat and experience different restaurants. This weekend we decided on a quick trip to Denver. The purpose of our trip was a valentine’s dinner and brunch with our kids.
In fact, put Denver on your bucket list if you have never been to the mile-high city. Denver has an incredible art scene, a love of craft beer, and many places to eat. Furthermore, if you are interested in going to Denver, I recommend the following:
- Larimer Square for great dining and shopping
- Performing Arts complex is a four-block site with ten theater spaces.
- Coors Field for baseball and stunning views of the Rocky Mountains.
- Denver Botanic Gardens is rated in the top five in the nation.
- Lastly, take a walk down the 16th street mall. It is a pedestrian mall with several city blocks and has a variety of shops and restaurants.
Honestly, we have a bunch of points at a hotel chain, and to be frugal, we decided on the Ace Hotel AKA Embassy Suites by Hilton Denver Downtown Convention Center. The ACE is within walking distance of Denver Performing Arts, 16th street mall, and plenty of restaurants and shopping.
We turned our car into the valet, and we were immediately confronted with crowds of people. The hotel is a “convention center,” If you are looking for a quiet hotel, this is not it. There was a 10-day convention for crypto the weekend we were there. There were tables and roped-off areas everywhere. Even the entrance was roped off so that you had to bypass the convention greeting committee.
We found the hotel check-in desk on the 4th floor, which was new to us. Usually, hotel check-in is on the first floor. The check-in area was clogged with people, and the check-in desk was minimal and not well marked. However, we quickly found the desk, and we were upgraded to a suite.
We decided that we could get over the overcrowded hotel main areas with the upgrade.
The suite was bright, with lots of floor-to-ceiling windows and very modern décor. Hilton is very reliable with soft, comfortable beds and is always very clean. I was excited to see an amazing modern tub in the room and couldn’t wait to try it.
We had reservations at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in Denver. We have been to Del Frisco’s in Dallas, and the food was always outstanding. The décor was elegant; however, very different from the Del Frisco’s we have been to, with this one having mahogany and beautiful local stone.
The restaurant was packed, but we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation. However, the service was a bit slow, but it wasn’t terrible considering how busy they were. A funny point was when we were being seated; we were told the VIP restrooms were located just around the corner. It turns out VIP is a loose term, as everyone is identified as VIP. LOL
My husband ordered the dry-aged steak, and I had the scallops. We had lobster mac and cheese on the side. In a word the food was fantastic. I’m pretty sure I made a lot of yummy noises. We had so much food we could not finish it in one sitting. We had all our leftovers boxed up and were excited to have his mind-blowing meal again the next day.
However, my husband left our leftovers in our uber. I am not going to go on a rant about this, but we were disappointed. Grrrr
Brunch – The restaurant
Our daughter suggested we all meet at Ritual Social House. My husband and I arrived 15 minutes early and found street parking right across from the restaurant. Our son, who doesn’t enjoy street parking, was not impressed the restaurant did not have a parking lot.
My husband and I ordered the “Morning After,” which includes homemade biscuits, sausage gravy, country fried chicken, bacon, and a scrambled egg. Again, they offer a lot of food, and everything was terrific. The one minus for me was I like crispy bacon, and the bacon I got was not.
Overall, the hotel was lovely, great location but just too many people. The restaurants were both fantastic, and I would return to both again. Hopefully, next time my husband won’t leave our leftovers in the uber!
